Flat moulding- Applying our Prosthetic (trial)

Application of piece to the face, how to colour
Health and Safety
·         Work with extra care when near eyes
·         Ensure model keeps eyes closed when using acetone
·         If working near the eye, hold a cotton pad over the closed eye for safety
You Will Need:
·         Your premade silicone prosthetic
·         Baby powder
·         Acetone
·         Prosade and remover
·         Brittle brushes
·         Isopropyl (99%) alcohol
·         Alcohol activated palette
·         Foundation & concealer
·         Brushes
·         Baby bud
How to
·         When removing your prosthetic from the mould, powder on both sides using baby powder so it doesn’t tear or stick to itself.
·         Cleanse and tone model’s skin. Apply barrier foam especially if using on sensitive skin
·         Cut a circle out of a piece of card and stick the prosthetic to the card using prosaide (so when applied it will go skin-prosthetic-card)
·         Ask model to close their eyes because of the chemicals we are using
·         Apply prosade to the back of the prosthetic and the area of skin you are applying It to, and wait to go tacky (clear)
·         Stretch mould out and press flat to the face
·         Using acetone on a baby bud, press and melt around the edges, very carefully blending away the silicone
·         Always put on prosthetic before make up. This is a time consuming process.
·         Once applied, dry and blended, cover with foundation, then flick various colours from the alcohol palette to give a realistic skin effect.

The area of my prosthetic was too large for the place I wanted it to go, so I really struggled to blend out the edges. after trying to blend one section for over an hour I just cut it and stuck it. I didn’t leave the glue to dry enough also and didn’t stretch it out enough, but I know what went wrong so I know what to do next time.

UPDATE: EASIER MOULD BLENDING PREP
·         Important mix in the right colour pigment into your mix.
·         To get fine edges, pour final mix into your mould.
·         Scrape with plastic flat edge, well.
·         Don’t rip your layers of baldiez.
·         Wipe all excess layers of your silicone mix
·         With baby buds and lighter fuel, leaving a small amount of blended out silicone around your actual sculpt.
·         This will leave the baldiez only around the edges.
·         Cut around the excesss baldiez  ,when you have realesed it from your mould, leaving
·         At least a quarter, to half an inch of baldiez.
·         Make sure prosaide is on your piece and over the whole area of skin. Continue as before.
